Geography of Jaipur

The magnificent city of Jaipur was founded in the year 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber. Jaipur can claim the rare honor of being the was the first planned city in India. Geographically Jaipur is situated in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan. The one of the key features of Geography of Jaipur is that it is located in the eastern part of Rajasthan. It is encompassed by the cities of Sikar and Alwar in the north while on the southern side of Jaipur lie the towns of Tonk, Ajmer and Sawai Madhopur. On the east of Jaipur the lies the districts of Nagaur and Sikar while Bharatpur and Dausa districts border Jaipur on the west. The city of Jaipur covers an area of about 200.4 sq. km. Another important fact about Geography of Jaipur is that it is situated at an altitude of 431m above sea level.



One of the major aspects of Geography of Jaipur is its climatic features. The climate of Jaipur is predominantly hot. The summer season stretches from Mid-March to June reaching. The maximum temperature in Jaipur often soar as high as 45°C. The torrential showers of Monsoons come usually in the month of July which is often preceded by dust and thunderstorms. However the Jaipur city doesn't receive much rain. After the departure of the monsoon season in September, Jaipur gets another hot spell once again. The winter in Jaipur is pretty charming with bright and pleasant sunny days even though the temperature can reach a low of around 5ºC during the nights.
